Dear
Thank you for your email regarding a Student Visa. The eVisa Students
Helpdesk is designed to answer enquiries from people who wish to use the
Internet to apply for a Student Visa (overseas, from Assessment Level 1
countries). Hopefully the following information will be helpful.
General information
For general information on Student Visas please visit our website at:
http://www.immi.gov.au/students/index.htm
Before submitting your application online you must have your Electronic
Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE) issued by the education provider in
Australia showing that you have enrolled in a course, have paid enrolment
fees, tuition fees and the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
To lodge your initial (offshore) Student Visa application on-line, go to:
http://www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/index.htm
Inside Australia
Any person already holding a valid Overseas Student Visa may apply on-line
for further stay as a student. An appointment may need to be made at any
DIAC office.
To lodge your application on line for a further Student Visa (while you are
in Australia), go to:
https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/visas/jsp/index.jsp?visaType=ONSHORE_STUDENT
Assessment Levels
Your application will be assessed according to your Assessment Level. This
level is determined by the country on nationality of the passport you hold
and the course you are studying. To view a Country Assessment Levels table
to determine your Assessment Level, go to:
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1219i.pdf

Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE)
The eCoE is not the initial letter of offer provided by the education
provider. It is issued once you have paid your tuition fees and the
Overseas Student Health Cover. You must have your eCoE before you can be
granted a visa to study in Australia. The eCoE contains an official course
registration code and course provider code as well as your course start and
end dates.
When can the application be made?
You cannot apply more than 124 days prior to the commencement of your
course.
Processing time frames
Student visa applications submitted electronically are finalised as soon as
possible following receipt of the results of the chest x-ray and medical
examination reports (where required) provided that we do not require
further medical information from you.
If a chest x-ray and medical is not required then the application will
usually be finalised between 5 - 10 working days of date of lodgement (this
is where you have paid the Visa Application Charge (VAC) and have received
your Transaction Reference Number (TRN)).
In some instances, applications may need to be referred to an Immigration
office in Australia for further processing. Referred applications may take
up to 4-5 weeks to finalise. In certain circumstances the Australian
Immigration Office may contact you to:
request more information and/or copies of documents;
undergo a health check that was not identified during the submitting of
this application,or for more medical information;
arrange an interview.
Chest X-ray and Medical Examinations
The web site may tell you that you need to undertake a medical examination
and a chest x-ray. If so, please go to
https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/inquiry/query/query.do?action=eVisa and follow
the instructions to download the forms from our website before having the
examinations.
These forms are especially encoded for you only. If you make a mistake on
these forms, please download new forms from the status enquiry page using
your Transaction Reference Number (TRN). DO NOT use forms downloaded for or
by someone else, or use forms obtained from any other source. Use only the
forms specifically for you.
Finding a doctor approved to perform the chest x-ray and/or medical
examinations
A list of Panel Doctors approved by the Department to conduct these
examinations can be found at

university will need to certify that you have commenced your course. You
may need to provide this evidence with the rest of your application for PTW
to your nearest office of the Department in Australia.
On-line application for limited Permission to Work (PTW) after commencing
your
course in Australia
If you are in Australia, as the holder of a Student visa you can apply
