Section B: Degree Programs
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers programs of study leading to the Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees. It is important that applicants select the appropriate degree program to ensure that their application is reviewed as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please note the important distinctions between the degrees:
M.Eng. is designed to provide professional training beyond the undergraduate level and to accelerate careers with specialized engineering expertise needed in business, government, and industry. The degree requirements, consisting of courses and an optional project, are structured to be completed in one year by a full-time student. The M.Eng. may also be completed on a part-time basis. The M.Eng. is a non-research degree.
M.A.Sc. provides students with an opportunity to pursue advanced studies in a major field and an opportunity to engage in research. The program requires full-time study, course work, and a research thesis. The M.A.Sc. is a research degree. The M.A.Sc. is the prerequisite for admission to the Ph.D. program.
Ph.D. is designed for exceptional individuals who intend to pursue a career in fundamental or applied research. The program requires course work and the successful completion of a research thesis. Applicants to the Ph.D. must hold the *****alent of an M.A.Sc. degree with thesis.
