ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS STUDENTS FREQUENTLY ASK:
What is the application deadline?
We do not have an official deadline, but we
strongly recommend that students apply early! If you are outside of the U.S., we recommend that you apply a few months before the start date (The first day of our mandatory orientation program) so that there is sufficient time to apply for your student visa and make other arrangements. For information on obtaining a visa please visit:

Does Shoreline Community College require TOEFL?
Shoreline does not require the TOEFL. Once you arrive here, you will be taking the ESL placement test to determine your level of academic English proficiency. However, if you
have already taken the TOEFL within the last 2 years or the IELTS test and received high scores, you may be exempt from taking the placement test. For details regarding the minimum scores needed for exemption, click
here.
Can I take academic classes and study English at the same time?
Yes! Once students have completed level five in ESL, they may also take academic courses. These courses are same college credit courses that resident students take and it’s a great way to meet new friends in the U.S.
How many International Students are at Shoreline Community College?
Currently, more than 500 international students study at Shoreline Community College. Students come from 40 different countries all over the world. For more info check out student facts at:

Many of our students choose to stay with local host families, especially when they first arrive here. There are two local homestay agencies that place Shoreline students with families. How much does it cost to attend Shoreline Community College?
Tuition for international students at Shoreline Community College is
$2,696 (for 15 credit hours) per quarter. Shoreline Community College’s tuition is calculated according to the credits taken. International students must take a minimum of 12 credits to maintain status with immigration. Please see further details

How can I apply?
First you need to complete an application form with our office. In addition, you will need to submit the other required application documents. If accepted, you will need to apply for an F-1 student visa. Please click
here to see what items you need to submit to apply to Shoreline.
Once all of the above items have been received, a decision will be made on your application. This usually takes 1-3 weeks.
Incomplete applications can cause delays, so it is preferable that you send in all your documents and the applications together. In addition, communication concerning your application will be done primarily through email. Therefore, please maintain a valid email account during the entire application process. Also, if you do not pay the Express mailing fee, please allow time for the I-20 to reach you through regular mail; this could take up to month in some countries.
How do I get my student visa?
Students who are accepted will be sent an I-20 document by us. This I-20 document is the immigration document that you will need to obtain a student visa at your local U.S. Embassy or Consulate. For details about the visa application process, please click

If I use Shoreline’s I-20 to get a visa, do I have to attend Shoreline Community College?
You should ONLY use Shoreline Community College's I-20 to apply for a visa or enter the United States IF you plan to attend Shoreline. If you are planning to attend another school, you should use the other school's I-20.
