[let me explain to you why ivy league schools(Harvard, Princeton, ...) are not comparable to even the best UK schools
Lets take undergraduate admission for both

best UK schools require first honor for admission which represent 15% of population

American university relay on standardize test which give more accurate representation of population, IVY league schools require an average 1500 in SAT exam

if you equate 15%(first honor) of population to american standard which represent 1250 in SAT score which represent from 20 to 80 universities, but not the top 20

when it comes to research almost all reputable journals and conferences are originated in US, and nobody takes seriously European or international journals. even European or international researchers want to publish in american journals.

when it comes to shanghai ranking, it consider research publication in quantity but not quality of research . most of american universities do not allow their students to publish in European or international journals or conferences because they know they are mostly rubbish work . not a scientific work

when it comes to course work, i can see any body doing worthy research without appropriate background . i am finished my courses and i am doing thesis but i always wish that i had more courses to prepare me

my friend i advice you to go there not only for great school, but also for the great simulating environment that have the elite thinkers of world
